WHICH SAGE ROD SHOULD I BUY?

Sage believes that selecting the correct fly rod is the first step in having a satisfying fly fishing experience. They manufacture eight different series of rods, in a variety of rod models and sizes, for every fishing situation around the world. Sage has developed a quick three-step procedure to help you determine which Sage rod is right for your fishing situation or casting preference. Please keep in mind that angler preferences vary widely and that these should be considered guidelines only.

1: To select the ideal line weight, determine the species you will be pursuing and the size and type of flies you will be using. Generally, the lighter line weights are for smaller flies and fish; the heavier line weights are for larger flies and fish.

2: Determine the type of rod action you prefer. Sage offers a variety of actions to suit many different types of anglers.

3: The proper rod length is determined by the type and size of water you will be fishing. Generally, shorter rods are used on smaller spring creeks and streams. Longer rods are used on larger rivers, lakes and in saltwater locations.

Fly Rod Models For 2008
The new ZXL rods are significantly lighter, stronger and easier to cast for everyone who enjoys the relaxed casting rhythm of a smooth progressive taper. Through the miracle of our G5 process, we were able to remove every gram of unnecessary material from each blank and replace traditional glass hoop fibers with lighter, more responsive graphite.

BASS Series 290 grain & 330 grain $350 Fast 7'11" TEST TST After working with a small, tight-lipped group of serious bass anglers, we’ve developed two new rods that can drop a hair frog or an air-light diver with pinpoint accuracy and hardly a ripple on the water. From a fly fishing perspective, we’re talking about effortlessly pushing big, wind-resistant bugs into tight quarters. Available in two models, Smallmouth and Largemouth, both rods measure 7'11", which slides them just under the strict bass tournament rules for rod length. Additionally, both rods are sold with custom bass taper flylines and a travel case for protection. When used outside the bass fishing world, we strongly recommend them for probing the mangroves or throwing huge flies for pike and muskies.

FLi Series 3 to 10 & 12 $255-450 Fast 7'0 to 10'0" The FLi Series rods combine a fast action taper with an incredibly smooth power curve. Value Priced and some models are available as complete outfits with 1800 Series reels. Versatile rods for anglers with a faster casting rhythm. Light enough for relaxing, all day fishing with the power to throw heavy tips and big flies. Value price for the angler who likes a faster rod.
