Guided Fishing Trips
Guided Fishing Trips
At Housatonic River Outfitters, we have great, handpicked guides. Whether you choose to fish the Housatonic River, Farmington River, Upper Naugatuck or many of the smaller tributaries and lakes, you will find these guides to be an invaluable resource for learning more about fishing these premier waters. These guides have more than half a century of fishing and guiding experience between them.
They will meet you at the shop, get you outfitted with any equipment you need, help you with your casting or fishing techniques (if needed), supply you with a gourmet meal and then take you out for for your day of fishing.
Always remember it's your day, so don't hesitate to tell us where you want to fish, what your quarry is (Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, Brook Trout, Smallmouth Bass, Largemouth Bass and Pike) and any special diet requirements.
We do not sell fishing licenses at the store - please visit the link below to purchase the appropriate fishing license and include the trout stamp - not having the license and having to purchase by cell phone at the store will delay your trip by a half hour or more.

Guided Wade Trips
Guided Wade Trips
Available for full and half days. Call for availability.
For those of you who get seasick, like to fish standing up or fish our treasure trove of smaller streams and rivers, wading is the way to go. Our guides will suit you up in waders and boots (we supply at not additional charge) and take you out to literally get your feet wet. The smaller rivers and streams are only accessible by walking in and this give you a chance get a little exercise, take your time and sometimes hover over that very large rising fish without having to worry about moving downstream in the driftboat. We also recommend wade trips for beginners, as it takes out the variables of the boat and allows you to just focus on casting, fishing and catching. We offer wade trips for trout, bass and carp and limit the trip to 2 people per guide for either half or full days. The smaller streams often offer wild trout, so keep this in mind when booking your trip, sometimes smaller is better. For the Farmington River we only offer wading trips.

Echo Founder Tim Rajeff has teamed up with Team USA’s Pete Erickson to design the best nymph rod on the market. Light and fast, the Shadow II offers critical line feel and control with an action that will also toss a loop when the bugs start flying. These rods are designed to out nymph any rod at an unbelievable price.
Acclaimed author and voice of the fly fisher the world over, John Gierach has a new book. Get your copy today. We have autographed copies.
You've been asking for them and we now have them! Black tippet rings. Perfect for nymphing or even fishing dries.
Running the Coast: 1000 Miles with the Striped Bass Migration is a new film from filmmaker Jamie Howard. What started out as seasonal plan to film anglers intercepting striped bass quickly morphed into a multi-year journey from the Chesapeake Bay to Maine. This film captures the world's largest migration in all conditions and every method used to catch these fish.
Our Boron III LS series combines cutting-edge boron technology with the renowned "Winston Feel" to produce the most advanced light line trout rods made. The medium-fast action is lively and responsive, and allows anglers to delicately present flies with pinpoint accuracy. Exceptionally lightweight, these rods offer the touch, feel and control required by small stream and spring creek enthusiasts, or anyone who enjoys stalking big fish with small flies while protecting light tippets.
TFO is in the process of redesigning their Deer Creek Spey Rods for 2017. These new rods will be 5 piece rods instead of the current 4 pieces. We have a limited number of these 4pc Spey Rods in stock and that means a deal for you. Call or email the shop to find out how you can score a deal in time for steelhead season.
With steelhead season fast approaching we are happy to share with you a great new DVD; Skagit Revolution. Tom Larimer, a well known and respected guide in the Pacific Northwest and beyond, demystifies spey casting and in particular shows you how to fish with these techniques. It is definitely one of the best we've seen! Check it out!
We highly recommend these for your wading shoes. If you're planning on steelheading this fall you should really make sure you have a pair of these. Even if you have felt soles, you will not regret buying these MICROspikes. They work great here on the Housy and our boulders, but they will work anywhere including the ice.
Steadfast and stylish, Guru has long set a standard as a rugged, fully USA-machined ultra-reliable reel at a great price. This season we’ve updated Guru’s spool geometry for enhanced retrieve rates, opened the porting to reduce weight and improve line drying, integrated the counterbalance and introduced a curved cross section arbor for structural stability.

Guided Pike Trips
Guided Pike Trips
Available for full days. Call for availability.
During the warmer months and sometimes the cooler one's, we focus on the warmwater species, with pike and carp in excess of 20 pounds and tons of smallmouth (sometimes more than 50 per day when the bite is of for the bass). The Housatonic offers distinct fishing opportunities that are not common in most trout waters. The easiest way to fish for these bad boys is to utilize the driftboats to cover more water and hit the banks and structures from out in the river where your casting is more effective. We love the fishing for the big boys. Some of these pike remind us of the line in Jaws, "We're gonna need a bigger boat." For the pike trips we only offer driftboat trips.
