11/07/16 River Report
River Flow 292 CFS - Visibility Clear - AM Water Temp 44'F. - A chilly start this morning up here on the Housy, means grab your coffee and come warm up by our wood stove before hitting the water. Should be a great day here despite the cold morning. Sunny day, with a high near 50. North wind around 6 mph. The rest of the week looks to be warmer and perfect fishing conditions. - Search the water in the morning by swinging streamers to find the aggressive Rainbows. - Time to start fishing Egg Patterns as trout are getting in the spawning mode. - If you don't get any takes on streamers then switch over to egg or nymph patterns and fish the water more closely. - At this time of year it's best to get on the river a little later in the morning. - This gives the sun a chance to warm up the river a couple degrees. - The fish will become more active in the slightly warmer water. - We are seeing some October Caddis. - HOUSY Trout are putting on the fall feed bag!!
BWO's thinning but still showing mid-morning thru the afternoon. - An effective day time technique is to swing soft hackles to sipping rises. - This is a perfect way to imitate swimming crippled BWO nymphs. - October Caddis in the late afternoon. - Also try nymphing deep during the day with a two fly rig.- On your two fly nymph rig start with a BH Prince and add an Egg Pattern as the second fly.- Swing streamers for Trout behind exposed boulders in all the deeper riffles & pools. - Streamer fishing is a great way to cover water and to find fish. - Go back and deep nymph over any river section that produced takes on streamers.
