09/02/16 River Report
Today is the PERFECT DAY to come fishing here on the Housy!!! Abundant sunshine, light breezes and a nice daytime high temp of 78'. It really doesn't get any better! With a possible visit of the remnants of Hurricane Hermine heading towards us for Sunday into Monday, today is the day to take off or at least leave work early. River Flow 103 CFS - Visibility Clear - AM Water Temp 66'F.

Don't forget our upcoming classes with Aaron Jasper. 9/24/16 - Euro Nymphing & 10/15/16 - Indicator Nymph Fishing - Call the Shop to reserve your place now. Spots are filling fast!

Fall is the air this morning with a refreshing morning temperature of 53'. These cool nights are perfect as they help the river cool down, which is excellent for the trout. Despite the cooler water temps the bass fishing is still HOT!!! - This is the best part of the summer on the Housy; plenty of bass and wet wading. -  With the river flow at 103 CFS it is possible to wade almost anywhere in the Housy. - This is an excellent chance to explore almost two miles of water above Push Em Up that you can't normally wade in. - Fish the upper TMA and below the RT 4 & 7 concrete bridge. - These areas are holding lots of smallmouths. - We seem to be getting a sprinkling of rain every few days some where in the watershed. - The streamers & poppers that we have been fishing with are taking some nice numbers on smallies. - The pike, bass and carp fishing is hot right now at the power house in Falls Village. - Fishing above the dam by boat has also been producing some nice pike and smallmouths.  - Get up here and throw your favorite popper on the stream for some of those big smallies. - With this flow it's a good opportunity to fish pools and riffles that are normally unwadeable. - This is the time of year to come up to study the HOUSY river bottom structure and understand how the fishing holes are laid out. - Don't forget to take pictures of the river bottom with landmarks for future reference. - Besides the BASS FISHING IS GREAT!!

Look for Iso's in the evenings. - Bass Popper Bite Is HOT during the day and into the evening!! -  Look for Bass  behind exposed boulders in all the riffles & pools.  - Carp are very active in the TMA. - Try dragging some Woolly Buggers, crawfish or Big Stone Fly Nymphs by them. - Fish the side channels of the power house in Falls Village for Bass or Carp. - Lot's of exposed river structure to target at the power house - Popper & Streamer fishing is the way to go during daylight hours.

AM River Water Temp 66' - River Flow 103 CFS. - Morning Air Temp 53'- Today's Air Temp High 78' - Tonight's Air Temp Low 55' - Remember from June 15th until September 15th the mouths of tributaries that are  posted by the DEEP are closed to fishing (Look for White DEEP No Fishing Signs). There is a Emergency Fishing Closure in effect as of 08/18/16 for eight tributaries entering the Farmington River starting with East Mountain Brook in New Hartford at the RT 219 Bridge down river to Hyde Brook in Farmington. This was done to create a temporary thermal refuge for the fish. Further information on these closures is available on the CT DEEP website.
