This week is a different forecast than what you've been used to so far this July. Cool and wet to start, we won't return to the 80's until late in the week. The cooler temperatures will be good for the trout population while not hurting the bass either. The bass, carp and pike fishing has been very hot lately! Lots of great reports from the guides, double digit days for many anglers and good sized bass being taken too. Fishing water outside the TMA is a good way to run into some really nice bass and carp! On the outside table next to HRO's front door we have a tremendous assortment of trout and bass flies on sale and all specially marked at $1.50 each! Refill your fly boxes with this is an amazing assortment of dry, wet & nymph fly patterns.

River Report
River Flow 290 CFS - Visibility clear. AM Water Temp 72°F. - Showers, mainly before 2pm. The rain could be heavy at times. High near 64°F. Northeast wind 10 to 16 mph. Tonight you can expect some showers and a low temp of 54°F. Thermal Refuges for the tributaries of the Housatonic River are in effect starting 06/15/17 thru 09/15/17. Fishing is prohibited within 100 feet of the CT DEEP black & white posted signs near the tributary mouths. As mentioned before we would recommend staying clear of the TMA at this time of the year.

Start off your day fishing searching with big streamers or fish yellow stones or rubber legs with a caddis pupae dropper. Alder pupae and Iso Nymphs are also very active in the riffles. The fish have been more than willing to strike often. Then in the afternoon and evenings start looking to dries and poppers. Caddis', Sulphurs & Iso's are all effective patterns right up to dark. The fish really start to key on the surface a half hour before dark. At this time its almost harder to not catch fish honestly. The Streamer bite is still on. Fish John's Lion Bugger, G's Gotcha, Circus Peanuts,  Zonkers, Woolly Buggers, Pick Yur' Pocket, Conehead Muddlers.

Dry Flies: Caddis', Iso's, Sulphurs, BWOs, Streamers: John's Lion Bugger, G's Gotcha, Circus Peanuts,  Zonkers, Woolly Buggers, Pick Yur' Pocket, Soft Hackles: Spiders, Hares Ear or Pheasant Tails,  Nymphs: Golden Stone (8-10) BH Hares Ear (12-16), BH Princes (10-16), BH Pheasant Tails (12-18), Rubber Legs (all colors), 20 Incher's (8-16) & Euro Bead Head Princes. Don't forget to try a Chartreuse or Yellow Stone Mop Fly, too. We recommend a drop rig for maximum effectiveness and use an indicator to make sure you don't miss any takes. Try the AirLock indicators if you haven't already. They are the best!
